Nigeria plans to build a 4 megawatt nuclear power plant

According to a report by the World Nuclear News website on March 18, 2022, Nigeria is currently in the tender stage for the construction of a nuclear power plant consisting of four units with a total installed capacity of 4 GW. Nigeria has signed a number of cooperation agreements with nuclear regulators from various countries as the proposed nuclear power plant construction programme moves forward, the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA) said recently. 

Nigeria has experience with reactors and is currently operating a small research reactor that has been in operation for 18 years. Nigeria has been seeking to diversify its energy mix since the 1970s. Nigeria has signed agreements on nuclear power-plant projects with South Korea, France, Russia and India, as well as cooperation and training agreements with nuclear regulators in the United States, Pakistan, South Korea and Russia.
